Screams pierce the air. The coppery scent of blood permeates the room. It makes my nostrils twitch as Thayer grabs my hand and pulls me along behind him. Yin trails the both of us, his little body smacking into the backs of my legs a time or two as we slow down in order to mesh with the throbbing crowd around us.

When someone elbows me in the side one too many times, I decide that I've had enough. I shove the offender away and snap at my friend. “What are we doing here, Thayer?” I call over the crowd.

He doesn't appear to hear me and instead tugs me forward once more. I growl when one of the people surrounding us pushes against my back nearly making me trip over my own feet. I round on the unlucky man, fist at the ready, but Thayer catches it and shakes his head. “This way,” he says.

Keeping my glare on the man in question, who slinks back into the mass of people, I snatch Yin's arm and drag him after us as Thayer does the same to me. He gets us as close as he can to what looks like a familiar giant cage—a wired-in, circular container in the middle of the room. It’s not unlike some of the ones I’d seen on Tartarus. The rusted metal twists separate the crowd from the fighters inside. The lightbulb blinks on in my head and a moment later, I see him.

I should have known.

Levi bounces on the balls of his feet, fists out in front of him, sweat coating his skin. There’s a small splatter of blood on his upper lip, but I can’t tell if it’s his or someone else’s. The loose synthetic cotton shorts he wears sag on his frame, just low enough that I can see the shadowed indentions of his hipbones jutting out beneath his abs and the ever attractive V, marking the path straight to his groin. My breath catches in my throat when his opponent—a man more than twice his size, hefts two of his meat-grinder sized fists and swings them both down at once.

Wrong move.

Levi darts out of the way of the man's swing almost too easily and circles his opponent, his eyes scanning the other man's frame. I know what he's looking for. An opening. A weakness. And just like I knew he would, Levi finds it. Kicking out at the backs of the larger man's knees, the whole room seems to shake as the attacker goes crashing down with a resounding roar that reverberates through the room. Levi pounces on him, driving in punch after punch. Hitting him in the kidneys, the throat, the side of his head. Weak points. Spots that will leave the other man gasping for breath, struggling to see through the dimness in his vision, and whimpering in pain.

Even though he's down, the big man isn't done. Not by a long shot. Rolling to his side, he narrowly avoids one of Levi's deadly roundhouse kicks.
